Allaire State Park

Located in Monmouth County, New Jersey, Allaire State Park is famous for sheltering a 19th century historic village and a steam-engine excursion railroad. It is also a nature oasis, home to a variety of wildlife and over 200 species of wildflowers, trees and plants.
Historic Allaire Village
The main attraction of the park is the historic 19th century Allaire Village, originally known as Howell Works, at the time a blooming community of ironmakers that exploited the surrounding iron deposits. Today, surviving buildings are restored, such as a general store, blacksmith and carpenter’s shop, bakery, foreman’s cottage, carriage house and church that still remains a very popular wedding spot. The village, run by a non-profit organization, is home to attractive living history events, and is a spot rich in an impressive variety of other programs.
Pine Creek Railroad
A half-mile track loop takes visitors through the park, steam-era style. The railroad, with its antique steam trains, was established in 1953 and is operated by a non-profit organization that offers weekend trips.
Park activities
The park includes a museum that introduces visitors to the bog iron industry of the 19th century and to Allaire Village. However, the place is fit for more than just the history buff. A network of trails is used by hikers, horseback riders and mountain bikers. The fresh-water Manasquan River is a popular fishing spot. Canoe rentals are available for people who want to observe the scenery from its eastbound waters. Deer hunting is permitted in a section of the park. Picnicking and camping are enjoyable due to the many available amenities.
Whether you want to taste the life of a 19th century prosperous community, enjoy the beauty of a scenic area, observe the flora and fauna of a place allowed to remain in its natural state, or even marry in a picturesque period church, Allaire State Park offers you plenty of opportunities to enjoy your trip to this wonderful location.
