Liberty State Park

One of the most iconic places in the United States is the Statue of Liberty. Symbolizing the dedication of the country to welcoming those yearning to live in freedom, it strikes a chord in all of humanity.

The best view

If you are on the New Jersey side of the Hudson River, then one of the state's best parks welcomes you to gaze upon Lady Liberty. Liberty State Park is a gorgeous enclave of green space on the banks of the Hudson that offers a variety of recreational activities. The area was formerly a major hub for shipping, but fell into disrepair before it was rehabilitated as a park in 1976.

What to do

Once you are at the park miles of walkways welcome joggers, bicyclists, roller-bladers and casual strollers. Birdwatchers also flock to the park to observe a great variety of urban wildlife. The Hudson is open at several launch points, offering a chance to see small boats on the river fishing and crabbing.

Liberty Science Center

At the northwest corner of the park sits the Liberty Science Center, New Jersey's first major state science museum. Opened in 1993, it boasts the world's largest IMAX theater and the original Hoberman sphere, among many other attractions. This facility offers a fine diversion on a rainy day.

Whether you want to see Lady Liberty as a reminder of your family's immigrant journey or you just want to relax along the banks of the Hudson, Liberty State Park is a splendid place to fulfill your desires.
