Park history

What makes this small park so special? In 1777, park namesake General George Washington used the scenic outlook to survey the land and scout British troops during military movements relevant to the Revolutionary War. The state of New Jersey bought the land to establish Washington Rock State Park back in 1913. Today, visitors to that same outlook can see all the way to the modern day skyline of New York City.

Perfect picnicking

Though Washington Rock State Park is not open for camping, it does offer an attractive daytime picnicking area complete with public tables, trash receptacles and restrooms. The picnicking area is ideally located to give visitors the same view that President Washington once employed to defend a young nation.

A walk in the park

Though the park is only 52 acres in size, it still offers visitors the opportunity to stretch their legs. The level terrain of the park makes it an easy walk for seniors and toddlers alike, while also offering them exceptional views. Pets are welcome at Washington Rock State Park, too .
