Wawayanda State Park

Encompassing 34,350 sprawling acres, New Jersey's Wawayanda State Park is an exciting destination for visitors who enjoy hiking, swimming, fishing and camping.

Trails

With over 60 miles of trails, including a 20 mile section of the famed Appalachian Trail, Wawayanda State Park is an ideal location for hikers of all skill levels. The paths are easy to follow and take visitors through lush and rocky terrains where they can experience amazing views and many instances of wildlife. The park is home to the endangered red-shouldered hawk and majestic great blue heron, as well as deer, turkey, rabbits, squirrels and raccoons.

Swimming and boating

Guests of the park can enjoy swimming in the beautiful waters of Lake Wawayanda from May to September. There are onsite concession stands serving food and drink, as well as first-aid facilities and restrooms. If visitors want to avoid getting their feet wet, then the park allows non-gasoline-powered vessels, such as canoes, rowboats and sailboats to launch from its dock. Boaters can enjoy taking in the quiet beauty of the park or bring along a pole to try a hand at reeling in a variety of fish, including trout and salmon.

Camping

The vast expanse of Wawayanda State Park means that there is plenty of room to camp. Campers can pitch their own tent amid the shrubs and trees or take advantage of one of several group campsites the park offers.

Picnicking

The best part of spending a day out in the wilderness is taking a break from all the amazing sights and sounds to partake in food. Whether lunch comes in the form of packed sandwiches or barbecued chicken over an open grill, visitors can spread out and enjoy their meal on one of the many picnic tables located around the park.

Wawayanda State Park offers a little something for everyone. Whether guests come to relax or to play, a host of activities and sights help make every outing a fun and enjoyable one.
